THE FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT CONCLUDES:

Fish Habitat is Protected

The EIS indicates that impacts from direct habitat loss would fall within the range of natural variability due to low spawning counts and low densities of juvenile Chinook and coho observed in the affected tributaries (4.24-46).

“Given the vast breadth and diversity of habitat, impacts are not likely to be noticeable”

Commercial Fishing is Safe

The EIS states that the Project would not affect the health of the Bristol Bay salmon fishery, including permit holder earnings, permit value, crew earnings, wholesale values, processor earnings, or local fiscal contributions (4.6-18).

THE FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT CONCLUDES:

Salmon and Mining DO Coexist

The EIS notes that Cook Inlet salmon fisheries exist in an active oil and gas basin, and the Copper River salmon fishery occurs in a watershed with the Kennecott Copper Mine and Trans Alaska Pipeline System at the headwaters (ES 86).

“Other salmon fisheries in Alaska exist in conjunction with resource extraction industries”
